Olympic Games, the Prestigious Sports Event

The Olympic Games is an international multi-sport event subdivided into summer and winter sporting events. The summer and winter games are each held every four years (an Olympiad). Until 1992, they were both held in the same year. Since then, they have been separated by a two year gap.

The original Olympic Games (Greek: Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες; [Olympiakoi Agones]were first recorded in 776 BC in Olympia, Greece, and were celebrated until AD 393.Interest in reviving the Olympic Games proper was first shown by the Greek poet and newspaper editor Panagiotis Soutsos in his poem "Dialogue of the Dead" in 1833.Evangelos Zappas sponsored the first modern international Olympic Games in 1859. He paid for the refurbishment of the Panathinaiko Stadium for Games held there in 1870 and 1875. This was noted in newspapers and publications around the world including the London Review, which stated that "the Olympian Games, discontinued for centuries, have recently been revived! Here is strange news indeed ... the classical games of antiquity were revived near Athens".

1896 Athens Olympic Games

The International Olympic Committee was founded in 1894 on the initiative of a French nobleman, Pierre Frédy, Baron de Coubertin. The first of the IOC's Olympic Games were the 1896 Summer Olympics, held in Athens, Greece. Participation in the Olympic Games has increased to include athletes from nearly all nations worldwide. With the improvement of satellite communications and global telecasts of the events, the Olympics are consistently gaining supporters. The most recent Summer Olympics were the 2004 Games in Athens and the most recent Winter Olympics were the 2006 Games in Turin. The upcoming games in Beijing are planned to comprise 302 events in 28 sports. As of 2006, the Winter Olympics were competed in 84 events in 7 sports.

Manchester United may sue over Daniel Levy remarks

Manchester United are considering taking legal action against Daniel Levy after the Tottenham Hotspur chairman’s fierce attack on Sir Alex Ferguson. Levy described Ferguson as arrogant and hypocritical on Friday, when making a formal complaint to the Barclays Premier League about United’s pursuit of Dimitar Berbatov.

However, the champions do not expect it to hamper their attempts to sign the Bulgaria forward. A second bid is likely this week after an opening offer of £20.5 million was rejected.

Tottenham maintain that they have the evidence to prove that United have “tapped-up” Berbatov over the past year. Tottenham have collated information that they will submit to the Premier League in the next few weeks after making formal complaints about United and Liverpool, for their pursuit of Robbie Keane.

The last straw for Tottenham were quotes attributed to Ferguson that appeared in The Sun last week. The newspaper quoted the United manager as saying that he was confident of signing Berbatov.

Lord Coe has reiterated his desire to have Ferguson manage a Great Britain football team at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, while Carlos Queiroz, the Portugal coach, has spoken for the first time of his desire to succeed the Scot as United manager.

p/s: What ever happened, its good =)

Malay Traditional Food.. Taste It!!

Variety is the spice in Malay food. The traditional culinary style has been greatly influenced by the long-ago traders from neighboring countries, such as Indonesia, India, the Middle East, and China. Malay food is often described as spicy and flavorful as it utilizes a melting pot of spices and herbs.

Malay cooking incorporates ingredients such as lemon grass, pandan (screwpine) leaves, and kaffir lime leaves. Fresh herbs, such as daun kemangi (a type of basil), daun kesum (polygonum or laksa leaf), nutmeg, kunyit (turmeric) and bunga kantan (wild ginger buds) are often used. Traditional spices such as cumin and coriander are used in conjunction with Indian and Chinese spices such as pepper, cardamom, star anise and fenugreek. Seasonings play an important role in Malay cooking as they often enhance the food taste and flavors. Many of the seasonings are not dried spices but are fresh ingredients such as fresh turmeric, galangal, fresh chili paste, onions, and garlic. A combination of fresh seasonings and dried spices are normally pounded together to make a fine paste and cooked in oil. Fresh coconut milk is often added.

Rice is the staple diet in any Malay meal. It is often served for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and supper too. Most meals are eaten by using your fingers, and eating utensils are kept to a minimum. All dishes are served at the same time, accompanied by a refreshing drink. Fish is popular in Malay cooking, as with other seafood such as shrimps and cuttlefish. Beef and mutton are very popular choices but never pork as it is against their religious beliefs to eat pork. The other popular white meat is chicken.

One of the most unique Malay dishes is the "roti jala" (lacy pancakes), which sometimes replaces the staple rice. Roti jala is an ideal accompaniment to any dish with lots of rich gravy and is often served during special occasions. It is made from a mixture of plain flour and eggs, with a pinch of turmeric powder and butter. Desserts are a must for any Malay meal. Easily available at most local restaurants and roadside stalls, Malay desserts are invariably very sweet and include ingredients such as coconut milk, palm sugar, and flour.

Popular Malay dishes include : -

• Nasi Dagang
The dish is made by cooking rice and glutinous rice together, to which coconut cream is added once it is cooked. Nasi Dagang is eaten with its own specially made side dishes of tuna fish curry and a light vegetable pickle.

• Keropok Lekor / Keping
A popular and the most visible fried snack in Terengganu, the keropok is made of fish meat, ground to a paste, and mixed with sago. Coming in two main different forms, the long chewy ones are called 'lekor', while the thin, crispy ones are called 'keping'. Keropok is best eaten hot with its special chili dip.

• Laksam
A delightful yet simple dish, the laksam is akin to the western pasta dish. Like the latter, it has both the flour dough and the gravy that goes with it. However, unlike the pasta, laksam is made using both wheat and rice flours, and the dough is steamed instead of boiled. Laksam's gravy is made of fish meat, which is boiled, pureed, and later mixed with coconut milk.

• Rendang
A meat dish that is prepared with coconut milk, chilies, onions and other condiments. Eaten with rice, the tasty tender meat is a delectable dish, a must at most Malay functions like Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

• Satay
Satay is another popular Malay dish. Pieces of marinated chicken or beef are skewered and cooked over a charcoal fire where they are periodically brushed over with oil. The skewered meat is then served hot, accompanied by a special peanut sauce.

• Nasi Lemak
My personal favourite Malay food - This local Malay food is rice steamed with coconut milk and served with curry chicken or beef, fried anchovies and sambal. Sometimes pandan leaves are added when steaming rice to give it the fragrant aroma.

• Laksa
Thick rice noodles are served in a tangy fish soup/gravy. Not at all fishy, the soupy gravy is made with mackerel and lots of aromatic herbs. Fresh garnishing of shredded cucumber, lettuce, pineapple, onion and fragrant mint leaves finishes the dish. In general the term Laksa refers to Malay style laksa, sometimes called Malay Laksa.

There are slight variations in different parts of the country. The key ingredient is tamarind, used as a souring agent, giving it a tart tangy taste. This version of laksa from the ‘hawker food capital’ - Penang, is especially famous and well known as Penang Laksa or Penang Assam Laksa.

• Soto Ayam
Soto ayam is a traditional Malay food, a dish of spicy chicken soup with vermicelli. The soup is yellow in colour due to the use of turmeric as one of its ingredients. Besides chicken, the soup is served with hard-boiled eggs, slices of fried potatoes, celery leaves, and fried shallots. Sometimes, slices of Lontong (compressed rice roll) are also added.

• Lemang
Lemang is a traditional food originated from the Minangkabau people of Indonesia and Malaysia cooked in a hollowed bamboo stick lined with banana leaf to prevent the rice from sticking to the bamboo. Usually prepared for festivities such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Hari Raya Haji, lemang is made of glutinous rice and coconut milk, with salt added for taste. Some lemang recipes add corn. Lemang is usually eaten with rendang. Lemang is also used popularly as the complement for eating durian, unsurprisingly in West Sumatera after durian are harvested, the demand for Lemang increases significantly. Lemang has been the official food identity of the state of Negeri Sembilan.

p/s: Totally, Malaysia had many delicious dishes.. So, what are you waiting for.. Try it now! =)

Paris.. Heaven of Wonder

Paris.. Why it is so beautiful place?.. Very good environment, nice surrounding.. Its old building still stands strong like Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame.. I think Paris also is romantic vacation other than Venice.. Very impressive places for couples spend time their vacation at here..

Eiffel Tower, symbol of Paris and well-known around the world

History of Paris:

Paris is more than 2,000 years old. Gauls of the Parisii tribe settled there between 250 and 200 BC and founded a fishing village on an island in the river that is the present-day Ile de la Cité -- the center around which Paris developed.

Known as Lutetia (Lutece) in ancient times, Paris was conquered by Julius Caesar in 52 BC, and existed as a regional center under the Romans and in the early Middle Ages. In 987, HUGH CAPET, Count of Paris, became king of France, and under his successors, the CAPETIANS, the city's position as the nation's capital became established. Often characterized as spirited and rebellious, the people of Paris first declared themselves an independent commune under the leadership of Etienne Marcel in 1355-58. The storming of the Bastille in 1789 was the first of a series of key actions by the Parisian people during the FRENCH REVOLUTION.

Paris also played a major role in the revolutions of 1830 and 1848. In 1871, during the FRANCO-PRUSSIAN WAR , the city was besieged for four months until France surrendered. 7 Ponts - Seine RiverAfter German troops withdrew, French radicals briefly established the COMMUNE OF PARIS. During World War I the Germans were prevented from reaching Paris, but they occupied the city during World War II from 1940 to 1944. Paris was again the scene of violence during the student riots of 1968.

Paris today maintains its importance, character, and charm, though its appearance is being transformed by structures such as the BEAUBOURG and by the ambitious grands projets building program carried out under the presidency of François Mitterrand. In addition to the La Défense arch and the Bastille Opéra, Mitterrand's projects have included the renovation of the Louvre by architect I. M. Pei, the La Villette complex on the northeastern edge of the city, and, in the southeast, the Bibliothèque de France, a great computer-age library.

Planning for Paris and the Paris Basin region includes consideration of large land areas in the Seine River valley all the way to the mouth of the river. New towns, parks, industrial locations, and expanded functions of existing towns are contemplated for this corridor on both sides of the Seine.

Colourful of Paris:

Paris Pyramid at Lourve Museum

Notre Dame de Paris

The Conciergie

The Place des Vosges

The Defense

The Palais Royal

The Madeleine

The Latin Quarter

The Grand Axe

The Sorbonne

The Opera House

Marais District

The Place de la Bastille

The Pantheon

Sacre Coeur

The Arc de Triomphe

This all buildings is very unic and beautiful architechture.. I like the most is The Places des Voges.. The architecture, refreshingly free of any Renaisssance imitation, invites contemplation.

For me, Paris is my favourite places.. Its attract me to visit.. Can give me peace and make feel want to live there someday.. Who knows..But I must learn how to speak French first.. =p
